MERRITTVILLE: Three new champs among honourees at upcoming banquet

Thorold, Ontario (October 12) – With the 39th annual Super DIRT Week in the record books – Southern Ontario/Western New York race fans and race teams looking for some Saturday Night excitement only have to flip their calendars ahead a little more than a month as Merrittville Speedway honors its 2010 Lucas Oil Weekly Racing Series Champions Saturday November 27th at the renowned Club Castropignano.
 
The annual sold out affair is just 7 weeks away and counting down with tickets available until the end of October at the Speedway's Winter Office located at Bicknell Racing Products in St. Catharines Ontario.
 
"We only have a few seats here and there," informs (Merrittville GM) Erica Bicknell,  "it's a fun night out … the event offers great food and entertainment … a good chance to get together with all your racing friends … many you haven't seen since the summer."
 
While the 59th consecutive season found Pete Bicknell claim his 20th L. St. Amand Enterprises DIRTcar 358 Modified Championship – three drivers claimed their first ever titles.
 
Greg Panunte, Josh Sliter and Rocco Conte each won their initial championships in the Original Pizza Logs DIRTcar Sportsman, J&S Heating and Air Conditioning Modified Lites and the Turn 4 Collision 4 Cylinder Divisions respectively.
 
Ken Sargent – a former Pro Stock Champion – although earning his first Hoosier Stock Title since making a recent return to the sport has won two Street Stock Titles earlier in his career.
 
The 5 drivers and others will among those receiving awards and point monies at the November 27th Gala to be held at the Port Robinson facility – just a short drive from the Speedway itself.
 
While those and other awards are pretty much known, highlights of the night will be awards such as the Best Appearing Car Awards, the Ed MacPherson Construction Kelly-Winger Sportsmanship Award, the Begolo-Little Most Improved 358 Modified Driver Award, the Gordie – in honor of the former announcer and Wall of Famer Gordie Wilson for dedication to the sport, the Tyler's Trophies Performer of the Year and the Pete's Automotive Driver of the Year.
 
Race Team Members or race fans looking to pick up a ticket can do so by visiting Merrittville Speedway's Winter Office – located in Bicknell Racing Products – 117 Cushman Road in St. Catharines Ontario from 9 AM to 5 PM – Monday to Friday.
