Lapcevich brothers open 2011 racing season in spectacular fashion
January 31, 2010, GRIMSBY – Grimsby racers Cayden and Treyten Lapcevich have been unbeatable early in the 2011 racing season. In two weekends of competition in Columbus, Ohio’s Buckeye Nationals, Cayden has four victories while younger brother Treyten has a pair to his credit.
The Buckeye Nationals quarter midget series attracts racers from across North America. It is widely viewed as the most competitive quarter midget racing in the world.
Highlighting Cayden’s victories was his triumph in the Light A division where he made a daring three-wide pass late in the race to take the win. Treyten’s win this weekend in the Jr. Honda class is the first win by a six-year-old in many years.
“The boys have been exciting to watch this winter,” says father, crew chief, and successful NASCAR racer Jeff Lapcevich. “They get better every time they’re on the track, and these series races are the most competitive we’ll run in all year long.”
The competition is steeped with racing talent. Quarter midget racing has been a proving ground for talented drivers like Jeff Gordon and Joey Logano, and some of the drivers currently competing include the sons of NASCAR greats Jeff Burton and Ernie Irvan.
“It’s great to beat the best drivers in the country,” says Cayden. “I have to thank our sponsors Tim Hortons, Bullrider Race Cars, Hawkins Racing Engines, and R Motorworks. The cars have been really fast the last couple of races.”
Cayden is no stranger to victory. The youngster has numerous Grand National titles to his credit in quarter midgets, and he’s widely viewed as one of North America’s rising talents. Treyten is showing the same potential as his older brother.
“Treyten drove a patiently aggressive race,” says his proud father. “He got spun out in his qualifying race because something was wrong in the steering. It was great to see him start seventh in the main event and win.”
Cayden’s two victories this weekend were as different as they come. While he needed late race heroics to take the Light A victory, he dominated Light B leading every lap after starting on the pole position.
Racing runs deep in the Lapcevich family. Grandfather Joe Lapcevich was a local racer in the Hamilton area decades ago, and he passed his passion along to his sons who have competed in various classes throughout North America.
Jeff Lapcevich is the most accomplished of the Lapcevich brothers having won in various road racing series. In recent years he has focused on the NASCAR Canadian Tire Series where he is a threat to win every time on the track.
There’s no telling how far the next generation of racing Lapceviches will go in racing with corporate support from Tim Hortons.

DJ KENNINGTON CLAIMS SECOND AT ALL STAR SHOWDOWN
January 30, 2011. Reigning NASCAR Canadian Tire Series Champion DJ Kennington of St. Thomas, ON capped off a busy January of activity with an amazing run at the NASCAR All Star Showdown this past Saturday night In Irwindale, California. In a car provided by Bill McAnally Racing, Kennington piloted his #17 Castrol Edge machine to a second place finish in the race referred to as the Daytona 500 of short track racing.
As the 2010 NASCAR Canadian Tire Series Champion Kennington was guaranteed a starting spot in the 225 lap feature race but he and his Canadian Crew were anything but complacent. “We didn’t just come here to run around we wanted to show how good this team is” said Kennington.
The team worked to get Kennington comfortable in the car he hadn’t even seen until Thursday last week and their efforts were rewarded. Kennington would qualify the Castrol Edge car 15th for the Saturday night race.
The format for the NASCAR All Star Challenge is unique and makes for a challenging race on the half-mile oval at Irwindale. The first 200 laps are raced in 100 lap segments and then it’s a 25 lap shoot out to the finish. “With 40 cars in the race the first goal was surviving until the end” explained Kennington.
As the green flag waved to begin the race Kennington was cautious in the Castrol Edge car and looked to avoid the potential hazards. “There were a lot of aggressive moves right from the beginning and just wanted to look after the car” he stated. “Right from the first practice I could tell we had a good race car and I wanted to have something left for the end of the race” he added.
Kennington would move the Castrol Edge entry forward several positions avoiding incident after incident. During a long green flag run in the second 100 lap segment Kennington solidified his position in the top-ten with his sight set on the top-five. “I don’t think we had a mark on the car until almost lap 200” said the driver. “There was a yellow for contact at that point and I got a little tap but avoided the big incident and actually gained a couple of spots” he stated.
In the final 25 laps the aggressiveness of all remaining competitors heated up but Kennington maintained his composure in the #17 Castrol Edge car. “In that last segment guys were really trying to make something happen and we benefited” said the driver. “For the last re-start after a yellow we lined up third and then quickly moved to second with a few laps to go” he said excitedly.
Despite his best efforts Kennington was unable to pass the #75 car in the remaining few laps but did take the checkered flag for a sensational second place finish. “I really tried to get up there for the win but the car was just a little bit tight at the end” said Kennington “I have to congratulate Jason Bowles on the win”.
Putting this program together for the NASCAR All Star Showdown was a complicated endeavor that required a lot of cooperation and support for which DJ Kennington is extremely thankful. “I’m so proud of this whole effort” said the appreciative driver. “I have to thank so many people for making this possible. Castrol Edge, they’ll be back with me for an 18th year this season. Dwight Kennedy and Northern Provincial Pipeline have been great supporters for such a long time. Bill McAnally Racing gave me a great car to drive for this race I knew we’d be good right away. And I really have to thank all my guys who came down from Canada with me, they do such a great job and I can’t thank them enough” he said.
Race fans are encouraged to keep up to date with the latest team news in several ways. Race fans should bookmark the team website www.djkracing.ca and follow them on twitter, www.twitter.com/djkracing Fans are also suggested to join the Facebook Group DJK Racing.

24 FOR THE 24
January 27, 2011 / Daytona, FL – When the 49 cars entered in this weekend's 49th annual running of the Rolex 24 at Daytona – 17 Daytona Prototypes and 32 GTs -- take the green flag at 3:30 pm on Saturday, January 29, there will be twenty-four drivers entered who are alumni of one of the most prolific and successful driver development series in the world, the Star Mazda Championship presented by Goodyear.
Included in this remarkable group are seven series champions – one a double champion – as well as two drivers who are defending their victories in the 2010 Rolex 24, Terry Borcheller in the #9 Action Express Racing Riley DP and Jonathan Bomarito, who co-drove the GT-winning #70 SpeedSource Mazda RX-8.
Bomarito, a veteran of the 2005 Star Mazda Championship season, will be teamed this weekend with two Star Mazda champions who moved up through the ranks via the MAZDASPEED Motorsports Driver Development Ladder; American John Edwards won the 2008 Star Mazda Championship driving for AIM Autosport, then moved up to win the 2009 Atlantic Championship.
English racer Adam Christodoulou won the 2009 Star Mazda Championship with JDC Racing and he and Edwards teamed in 2010 to campaign a SpeedSource-prepared Mazda RX-8 in the Grand-Am GT class, winning at Lime Rock and scoring four podium finishes. "Given that we are entering out 21st season in 2011, I find it both remarkable and perfectly reasonable that there are so many graduates of our series competing this weekend at the Rolex 24," says Star Mazda Championship presented by Goodyear founder and President Gary Rodrigues. "We designed to Star Mazda Championship to be an affordable driver development series and to provide a comprehensive motorsports education that would prepare our graduates to compete at the top level in many forms of motorsports, from IndyCar to NASCAR to F1 and Prototypes. I would say this list of drivers is an eloquent testimonial that we have achieved our goal. And starting this season, as part of the new Mazda Road to Indy, we'll be taking that process to the next level, helping the hottest young drivers from around the world accelerate their careers."
Other Star Mazda Championship alumni competing in the GT class this weekend include 2007 series champion Dane Cameron, who also won his title driving for JDC Motorsports. He will be racing the #41 Dempsey Racing / Seattle Children's Hospital Mazda RX-8, and his car will be the one with the hearts all over it, as part of the team's “Buy a Heart, Save a Life” fundraiser program (Learn more and make a donation at www.teamseattle.com/2010/10/buyheart/).
“The Buy a Heart, Save a Life program has been going extremely well,” says Cameron said. “We just surpassed 200 hearts sold, which will be on the car for the race, a huge benefit and showing of support for Seattle Children's Hospital. So many things happen over the course of the Rolex 24, it is virtually impossible to plan and predict for everything, but the team has prepared our car well and we have a fantastic group of guys who are up for the task. We just need to use our heads, race smarter than the rest and stay as clean as possible. If so, we'll be right there at the front."
One of Cameron's co-drivers will be James Gue, who raced in Star Mazda in 2002. And the #36 Yellow Dragon Motorsports Mazda RX-8 will have three Star Mazda veterans co-driving, including Vancouver, B.C. racer Chris Cumming, who won the back-to-back championships in the 2008-2009 Star Mazda Expert Series for drivers 30 – 44 years old driving for World Speed Motorsports. Cumming will co-drive this weekend with fellow Vancouver racer Taylor Hacquard (the son of Vancouver Mazda dealer Mike Hacquard), who also drove Star Mazda in 2007-2009. And Mikel Miller, another driver in the #36 car, finished second in the 1998 Star Mazda Championship, engineered Scott Bradley's 2001 championship then went on to work for Standing Start and was Chris Cumming's driver coach during his championship seasons.
Also competing in the GT class are Quebec racer Jean-Francois Dumoulin in the #56 for Bennett Racing, Tom Nastasi in the #11 TPN Racing/Blackforest car and Scott Rettich in the #30 Racer's Edge Mazda RX-8. American open-wheel and sports car standout Bryan Sellers will be at the wheel of the #48 Paul Miller Racing entry. Sellers was a Star Mazda racer in 2005, driving the MJ Motorsports car when he signed to finish out the season for Panoz in the GT2 class and his Star Mazda seat was filled by… Jonathan Bomarito.
In the Daytona Prototype ranks are still more Star Mazda champions. In addition to defending Rolex 24 winner Borcheller is the winner of the 1999 Star Mazda championship, Joey Hand; he'll be co-driving the #01 Chip Ganassi Racing with Felix Sabates car with IZOD INDYCAR star Graham Rahal, who finished 4th in the 2005 Star Mazda Championship season.
2005 was a remarkable year for the Star Mazda; drivers on the roster included Marco Andretti (who finished 5th in the championship) and championship winner Raphael Matos. Now a full-time IndyCar driver, Matos will co-drive the #95 Level 5 Motorsports Riley DP car this weekend. Also part of the Star Mazda 'class of 2005' was Mark Wilkins, co-driving the #55 Level 5 Motorsports car, as well as John Pew, who will be sharing the driving chores in the #60 Michael Shank Racing Riley DP. Other '05 alums include Doug Peterson, who will be found co-driving the #7 Starworks Motorsport Riley DP and Mark Patterson, co-driving the #23 United Autosports with Michael Shank Racing Riley DP.
If 2005 was a particularly prolific year for the Star Mazda Championship, the seasons on either side are also handsomely represented among the Rolex 24 driver roster. 2004 Star Mazda champion Michael McDowell (right), who has gone on to race IndyCars, prototypes and is currently a regular in the NASCAR Sprint Cup series, will co-drive the #6 Michael Shank Racing with Curb/Agajanian Dallara DP. Also part of the 2004 Star Mazda season were Colin Braun, also competing in NASCAR and co-driving the #8 Starworks Motorsport Riley DP and Brian Frisselle, who will be sharing the #77 Doran Racing Dallara.
And from the Star Mazda class of 2006 comes Ricky Taylor, son of SunTrust Racing team owner/driver Wayne Taylor, who has won both the Rolex 24 and the Grand-Am Daytona Prototype championship. Taylor will co-drive with his father in the #10 SunTrust Racing Dallara.

NASCAR: Best Of The Best Descend Upon Toyota Speedway At Irwindale
DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. (Jan. 27, 2011) — As everyone descended on Toyota Speedway at Irwindale (Calif.) on Thursday for initial preparations for the NASCAR Toyota All-Star Showdown, the elite southern California half-mile facility has once again become a melting pot of short-track racing.
In addition to having drivers on the NASCAR K&N Pro Series entry list from five different countries, the ‘Daytona 500 of short-track racing’ will also feature officials from each of NASCAR’s six touring series. For the premiere event at the touring and weekly level, NASCAR brought in the best of the best to help run the show.
“With three different divisions and more than 100 cars on the ground, this is a challenging event to pull off from a logistics and operations perspective,” NASCAR Director of Touring Series Richard Buck said. “We feel it is important to have the knowledge and experience of all our series directors and officials from coast-to-coast here for this event. It is a very capable group, and one that has made the Showdown a success on an annual basis.”
On the track, the diversity of the talent will be just as prevalent as it is off. Of the 46 cars that unloaded on Thursday for the K&N Pro Series event, there will be three reigning NASCAR champions (Eric Holmes, K&N Pro Series West; DJ Kennington, Canadian Tire Series; German Quiroga, Mexico Series) five past champions (Jason Bowles, K&N Pro Series West; Matt Kobyluck, K&N Pro Series East; Greg Pursley, Whelen All-American Series; Andrew Ranger, Canadian Tire Series; Auggie Vidovich, former Southwest Tour) as well as a pair of drivers that have earned titles in their home countries (Lucas Lasserre, France; Miguel Paludo, Brazil).
The two NASCAR Whelen All-American Series race fields, while primarily made up from California drivers, will also have a diverse collection of top drivers. The initial Super Late Model entry list includes drivers from Arizona, Nevada, North Carolina and Washington while the Late Model entries feature competitors from Idaho in addition to Arizona and Nevada.
The main event of the weekend will be the 225-lap NASCAR K&N Pro Series all-star race on Saturday. It features secured starting spots for the 2010 champions of NASCAR’s developmental series and race winners of the NASCAR K&N Pro Series from the 2010 season.
The competition schedule will begin Friday with the 75-lap NASCAR Whelen All-American Series Super Late Model race, and include a 50-lap Last Chance qualifier for Saturday’s NASCAR K&N Pro Series race. Saturday also features a 50-lap NASCAR Whelen All-American Series Late Model race.
Both nights of racing will air live on SPEED, beginning at 11 p.m. ET on Friday and 10 p.m. on Saturday. The coverage will be anchored by Rick Allen and Phil Parsons in the booth with Dick Berggren and Jim Tretow covering action in the pits. Sirius NASCAR Radio will also provide flag-to-flag coverage both nights on Sirius XM Ch. 128 with Pat Patterson and past NASCAR Camping World Truck Series Champion Mike Skinner. Sirius’ broadcast begins at 10 p.m. each night.

In addition to serving as the primary vehicle sponsor for Wood Brothers Racing and Tasca Racing, FCSD brings a very aggressive brand awareness campaign with a significant trackside presence at selected NHRA and NASCAR events in the form of the Motorcraft/Quick Lane Racing Experience. TEAM CANADA - Scholarship to the Festival
The new Brian Graham racing Sports & Entertainment,(BGRS&E), backed by Grote Industries of Canada, award, will provide a talented up and coming Canadian racer, with the opportunity to compete in the world renowned Formula Ford festival in England this fall.
After a couple years debating on how to launch the program, BGRS&E, in partnership with Grote Industries of Canada, (manufacturers of vehicle lighting and safety systems), announced the creation of Team Canada Scholarship to the Festival at the 2011 during a press conference at the 2011 edition of the Canadian Motorsports Expo January 22nd. The new program will witness one driver, from either the Ontario Formula Ford Championship, (OFFC), or the Quebec-based Formula Tour 1600 series being awarded a funded ride in the 2011 Formula Ford festival held at Brand's Hatch in the UK this fall.
BGRS&E principals, Brian Graham, Gerry Merz, and Dave Matkovich will keep an eye on the talented young racers, contesting both series, throughout the 2011 season, ultimately creating short-list of candidates who will vie for the prestigious award early fall. That select group will then take part in a shootout where raw speed, technical knowledge/feedback, media/sponsor skills, and personality will be evaluated by a panel of judges which will include Canadian motorsports legend Ron Fellows. One driver will then be selected as the Team Canada scholarship winner and driver for 2011.
Canadian FF1600 series have given up and coming motorsports stars such as Kyle Marcelli, Conor Daly, Joseph NewGarden, and Spencer Pigot a spring board up the motorsports ladder. In fact, Daly and NewGarden parlayed their runs with Brian Graham - Team Grote Racing, contesting the OFFC, into victories for Team USA Scholarship program at both The Formula Ford Festival and Walter Hayes Trophy fall of 2008. Given our country's junior development series and teams have been a training ground for top US up and comers, BGRS&E and Grote Industries of Canada, felt it was time to send our country's best to contest!
With the addition of the Team Canada program, which could expand to two drivers with increasing support from corporate Canada, it is hoped that our young up and coming talent within the country's high-performance Karting series, will now see Canadian FF1600 competition as the logical "next step" into junior formula car competition.
Further details to come as Team Canada Scholarship to the Festival develops.

NASCAR Adds Wild Card Element To Setting The Chase Field; Simplifies Points System
While the 12-driver Chase field remains intact, the final two spots will be determined by the number of wins during the first 26 races.
The top 10 in points following Race No. 26 – the “cutoff” race – continue to earn Chase berths.
Positions 11 and 12 are “wild card” qualifiers and will go to non-top-10-ranked drivers with the most wins, as long as they’re ranked in the top 20 in points. The top-10 Chase drivers will continue to be seeded based on wins during the first 26 races, with each win worth three bonus points. The wild card drivers will not receive bonus points for wins and will be seeded 11th and 12th, respectively. It’s a move aimed towards rewarding winning and consistency during the regular season.
Brian France, NASCAR Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, made the announcements at the NASCAR Hall of Fame during NASCAR’s annual media event as part of the NASCAR Sprint Media Tour.
“The fans tell us that winning matters the most with them, so we’re combining the tradition of consistency in our sport with the excitement that comes along with winning,” said France. “This makes every race count leading into the 26th race of the season at Richmond, when we set the field for the Chase for the NASCAR Sprint Cup.”
The new points system – which applies to all NASCAR national series – will award points in one-point increments. As an example, in the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series, race winners will earn 43 points, plus three bonus points for the win. Winners also can earn an extra point for leading a lap and leading the most laps, bringing their total to a possible maximum of 48 points.
All other drivers in a finishing order will be separated by one-point increments. A second-place finisher will earn 42 points, a third-place driver 41 points, and so on. A last-place finisher – 43rd place – earns one point. In the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series, the last-place finisher receives eight points, to account for that series’ 36-driver race field.
“Many of our most loyal fans don’t fully understand the points system we have used to date,” said France, referencing the system that has been in use since 1975. “So, we are simplifying the points system to one that is much easier to understand. Conceptually, it is comparable to our previous system, but it is easier to follow.”
During his remarks Wednesday night, France reflected on the outstanding competition the sport enjoyed in 2010 and expected to see that high-caliber of racing to continue once the green flag drops for the 53rd running of the Daytona 500 Feb. 20.
“NASCAR enters 2011 with positive momentum and a great sense of excitement and optimism,” said France. “We’re extremely excited for the launch of the season. Leading the season off with Daytona, Phoenix and Las Vegas, we believe our fans are in store for some of the best racing the sport has to offer.”
Other competitive enhancements announced Wednesday:
Pick a Series – Drivers in all three national series now must select the series where they’ll compete for a driver championship. Drivers still may compete in multiple series and help their teams win owner titles in series where they’re not competing for a driver title. The move helps spotlight young talent in the NASCAR Nationwide and NASCAR Camping World Truck Series.
New Qualifying Procedure – The qualifying order will be set based upon slowest to fastest practice speeds.
Inclement Weather Qualifying – If bad weather cancels qualifying, the final starting lineup will be determined by practice speeds. The same rule book procedures will be used to determine eligibility to start a race. If weather cancels practice sessions, then the starting lineup will be set by points, per the rule book.
Tire Rules Revision – NASCAR Sprint Cup Series teams now are allowed five sets of tires for practice and qualifying instead of six. They must return four of those sets to Goodyear in order to receive their race allotment, and may keep one set of practice/qualifying tires. Tire allotments for race weekends will vary according to historical performance data.
Closed Loop Fueling System – Introduced in the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series, this goes into effect for all three national series in 2011. It combines a more efficient fueling system with the elimination of the catch-can man, considered the most “vulnerable” pit-crew member. Teams now will use six, rather than seven, over-the-wall pit-crew members.
Evolution Of NASCAR Sprint Cup Series Car – NASCAR continues to work with the manufacturers and teams to enhance the look of the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series car. The cars have new fronts this season and the body makeover will continue to help appeal to fans and aid manufacturer identity.

Bajaj Pulsar 135 LS - 2011
For the LS engine is still carrying the Pulsar 135 DTS-i technology or two spark plugs, plus a 4 valve SOHC configuration, making the engine is solid. The result is certainly missed when gas began twisted. Pulsar LS 135 offers a lightweight and responsive acceleration, especially with the support of 5-speed manual transmission.
However, handling a bit stiff when it should be looking for a gap between the dense congestion of the city, although at high speed, Pulsar LS 135 still provide sufficient stability for the motorcycle class.
- Type: motor sports
- Engine: DTS-i, 4 valve SOHC
- Engine capacity: 134.66 cc
- Maximum power: 13.5 hp
- Peak torque: 11.4 Nm
- Maximum speed: 120 km per hour
BAJAJ XCD 125 DTS-Si 2011 Dilengkapi Cakram
Technology that was carried was Bajaj XCD 125 DTS-Si (Digital Twin Spark-Swirl Induction). Technology is actually similar to the existing technology Bajaj Pulsar 180 (DTS-i). The difference was the location of inlet and outlets ports are somewhat different than the DTS-I. This will give greater swirl effect, the result is will be more economical fuel.
The capacity of 125cc engine capable of producing power relatively small, namely 9.5 hp at 7000 rpm. Maximum torque is 10.8 nm to 5000 rpm. However Bajaj brags that its product is able to walk as far as 64 km with only 1 liter of gasoline (in town). With a weight weighing 113 kg, Bajaj XCD 125 DTS Si is only capable of driving as fast as 95 km/hr.

CHAMPIONSHIP-WINNING STAR MAZDA TEAM RAMPS UP AN EXPANDED EFFORT FOR 2011
Purcell, who engineered John Edward's Star Mazda Championship-winning car for AIM Autosport in 2008, is an MIT-trained engineer with more than thirty years of experience in Europe and the U.S. as a driver, engineer and team manager. His experience includes road courses, street circuits and ovals, as well as such series as Formula BMW, Formula Atlantic and Indy Lights. He also had a major role in the early development of the Formula Mazda series.
"Team GDT has really stepped up their game for 2011 and I'm excited to be a part of it," says Purcell. "J.W. Roberts, who is both the owner of the team and one of the drivers, has provided the resources for us to really put forward a significant effort for the coming season, and that's just what this team needed to take them to the next level. They won both the Expert and Master championships in 2010, as well as the overall victory at Trois-Rivieres with Alex Ardoin in the car, so they're extremely competitive at every event, and I think the caliber of young drivers we're talking to about expanding the team is indicative of that. It's also a very well-rounded program with Chuck West, whom I've been friends with for twenty years, on board as both driver coach and nutritionist/lifestyle consultant. Team GDT aims to be competitive for both the Expert Series and the overall championship in 2011, and I think they have most of the pieces in place to achieve that goal."
In 2010, Team GDT drivers captured two championships within the Star Mazda Championship; the Expert Series for drivers aged 30-44 and Master Series for drivers 45 and older. Team owner/driver J.W. Roberts won the Expert title, driving his #65 Team GDT / General Data Tech Mazda to a total of nine in-class victories. Roberts (left) also won the BBS 'Hard Charger Award" which is presented to the driver who gains the most places in total from the beginning to end of all the races during the season. Carlos Conde (right), a former semi-pro polo player and investment banker who splits his time between New York and his home country of Puerto Rico, won the Master Series with six in-class wins racing the #31 Team GDT / Pronto-GMT / Olympus Securities Mazda.
In addition, the team served notice of their increasing competitiveness in the GP3R at Trois-Rivieres when they put Team GDT driver coach Alex Ardoin (right) – also the 2009 GP3R winner -- in the team's spare car for the race. Starting from the outside of the second row, he won the race, completing a unique 'tri-fecta' for the team, which also included in-class wins for Roberts in the Expert Series and Conde in the Master Series. Both Roberts and Conde will return to compete in the 2011 Star Mazda Championship, racing in the new Expert Series for all drivers 30 and older.
"That was a pivotal moment for Team GDT when it became clear to us that we had group of people all of whom were championship-caliber, ' says Roberts. "It persuaded us to do what we needed to do to take the team to the next level and compete for the overall championship in 2011. Adding Eric Purcell, an immensely talented and experienced engineer was a major step. Next comes finding a pair of young drivers who share our philosophy that a championship isn't just strapping yourself into the car and driving the wheels off; it's something you build from a combination of commitment, teamwork, education and lifestyle. We're already talking to one rising star who fits these requirements, and are interested in finding one more truly committed young champion to complete the four-car team we plan to field this season."
Adding to the championship mix at Team GDT for 2011 will be experienced team manager Paul Mata and driver coach and nutrition/lifestyle consultant Chuck West, a championship-winning open-wheel driver – in cluding the 1992 Star Mazda Championship -- and the original founder of the championship-winning Worldspeed Motorsports team. West's 'whole life' approach to driver training, which includes everything from fitness and nutrition to lifestyle, is credited by current team drivers Roberts and Conde with being a major factor in their 2010 championship campaigns. In addition to Mata and West, racer and driver coach Alex Ardoin will continue to work with the team as liaison with the new young drivers Team GDT plans to run in 2011.
"This is a really unique and focused team with a specific philosophy, a clearly-defined goal and the resources to reach that goal," says Mata. "This is not a write a check and show up with your helmet operation; we've talked to a number of young drivers who have tremendous skills but not the work ethic and willingness to learn that we're looking for. Our 2011 program will provide a tremendous opportunity for two young drivers who are fast and fierce, but also 'teachable.'"

COMPASS360 READY TO DEFEND CHAMPIONSHIPS AT DAYTONA
Compass360 Racing returns to Daytona hot on the heels of their second straight Grand-Am Driver, Team and Manufacturer's championships, which they clinched at Miller Motorsports Park, Utah in September 2010. The team also returns as defending race winners at the famed Florida track. In fact, a C360R car has been on the Daytona podium four years running.
"We've once again put together what I believe is the best driver line-up in the paddock," remarked Team Principal Karl Thomson. Last year's champion, Californian David Thilenius returns to drive the #74 Honda which he'll share with Atlanta's Zach Lutz, who took third in last year's title chase. Technical Director Ray Lee said, "Zach's moved up through our driver development ladder, and he's got what it takes to get the car on the podium. It's great to have another of our young guns move into the closing role, and it's a great opportunity for Zach to drive with last year's champ."
Zach will be battling his other team-mates for top bragging honours, however. Georgia-based Ryan Eversley's regular co-driver Keith Carroll is unavailable for the Daytona race, so the team has tapped Quebec touring car legend Benoit Theetge to drive the first stint in the #75 car. Ben finished fourth in a C360R Honda at last year's Daytona race, while Ryan was fifth.
Benoit's brother Donald, also from Quebec, will co-drive #77 with newcomer Andrew Novich, from California. "Andrew's the newest of our Development drivers, and I was really impressed with his first weekend with the team during the test days," noted Thomson. "Don and Ben normally drive as a duo, but in this case, Donald's going to take over from Andrew to battle with Ryan and Zach, which should be fun to watch!"
Vancouver's Carlos Tesler-Mabe will share the #76 car with Dan Rogers, from Anchorage, Alaska. Tesler-Mabe joined the team for the first time in 2010, competing in four races and finishing in the top-ten in three of them (he was 11th at Miller). Rogers makes the move to pro racing after much success in Pacific Northwest regional series and the Ford Racing Mustang Challenge. "I enjoyed working with Carlos last year," said Crew Chief Steve Wheeler, "and I think he and Dan are going to have a great race together."
Over the off-season Grand-Am made some changes to the technical regulations of some of the cars, including an inlet restrictor for the Hondas, which means the Civics now make less power. "We've definitely lost some of our top-speed from last year, which is critical at Daytona," noted Thomson. "We've got four great driver duos, but we're going to have to be right on top of the strategy if we're to make it five podiums in a row."
The Grand-Am 200 race takes place on Friday, January 28th at 1:30pm; it will be aired tape-delayed on SPEED Channel on February 5th at 3:00pm. Tickets are available online at http://bit.ly/hJJITB.
