McColm on verge of top-10 in final NASCAR series standings; Ajax racer and team looking to finish strong in Kawartha Speedway season finale

September 24, 2010, AJAX, ON – Joey McColm is on the verge of achieving a career first. The young Ajax, Ontario, racer enters this Saturday’s season finale of the NASCAR Canadian Tire Series in the top-10. The key to his success has been perseverance.
“We’ve learned a great deal in a few short months,” said McColm. “The team has worked hard to get us into the top 10. One more solid result, and we should be able to stay there.”
McColm’s chances at success seemed slim at Riverside International Speedway near Antigonish, Nova Scotia. The car was fast in the early stages of the event, but contact with another car forced McColm to the garage area to make repairs. The crew never gave up.
“It’s virtually unheard of to finish 10th after spending as much time as we did in the garage area,” said McColm. “We will never wish bad luck on anyone, but it seemed that a lot of teams suffered mechanical failure in that race. It was disappointing for us because the car was running so well.
“My crew happened to get their work done quickly, and we were able to get back on the track and pick up valuable spots. It was a whole team effort.”
McColm will feature Race Time Radio as premier sponsor on his #50 Dodge this weekend. The popular weekly talk show about motorsports began a relationship with McColm in August, and they have remained a marketing partner since then.
“I have to thank Joe and Sue Chisholm from Race Time Radio for coming on board,” said McColm. “They have been a great help, and the added exposure has helped us a great deal.
“A lot of teams have different agendas this weekend. We’re focused on staying in the top 10, but I want to congratulate DJ Kennington and JR Fitzpatrick on their great seasons. It looks like it will come down to those two for the title, and whoever wins it has definitely earned the championship.”
