SOUTHERN ONTARIO SPRINTS CHAMPIONSHIP CHASE CONTINUES WITH LABOUR DAY CLASSIC

The Southern Ontario Sprints fifteenth anniversary tour is back in action this weekend with two big events at the Brighton Speedway. The Labour Day Classic weekend is always a highlight of Ontario's racing season, and again will play a pivotal role in the SOS season championship.

Glenn Styres of Ohsweken saw his lead in the SOS season standings drop to just twelve points over Consecon driver Tyler Rand after the last SOS race at Brighton on August 7. Rand finished third in that event, while Styres finished sixth. Keith Dempster of Alton is third in the standings and fifty points out of the lead, while Ridgetown's Adam West is fourth, and rookie driver Jim Munsie of Pickering sits fifth.

Joyceville's Rick Wilson got his first feature win of the season in the August 7 event. Wilson dominated the feature race to claim his fourteenth career win at the Rinaldi family-owned 1/3 mile oval. Always a fan favourite at Brighton, "The Joyceville Jet" will try to add to his stellar record at Brighton this weekend. Wilson has a dozen runner-up finishes to go along with his fourteen wins in forty-one career races at the Northumberland County track.

Championship leader Styres has ten career wins at Brighton, including four on Labour Day weekend, but none this year. Styres' teammate Dempster got his eighth Brighton win in May, Jamie Collard of Burford won at Brighton in June, and local driver Chris Jones of Demorestville got his first ever Sprint Car win there in July. Collard is still sitting out due to a back injury suffered in a July World of Outlaws event. Other active drivers with feature wins at Brighton include Warren Mahoney (3), Kyle Wilson (3), Adam West (2), Kevin Job (1), and Dick Mahoney (1).

Others expected in competition this weekend and looking to add their names to Brighton's Sprint Car win list include; Bob Crawford, April Wilson, Kyle Fraser, Brad Malloy, Travis Cunningham, Doug Banks, Chris Durand, Frank Baranowski, Paul Pekkonen, and 2010 Rookie of the Year candidates Brad Lodge and Erin Joyce.

PURSE INCREASE
The Southern Ontario Sprints and Brighton Speedway have worked together again this year to increase the purse for the Labour Day Classic. Saturday's feature winner will be awarded $1,000, while Sunday's first prize is $1,200. Second and third place awards are also increased for the weekend.

Ohsweken Speedway's two-seater Sprint Car will be at Brighton all weekend, with driver Glenn Styres ready to give you the ride of your life! Rides in the two-seater are $100, and more information is available by calling the Brighton Speedway office at 1-(866)-681-1102, or e-mailing http://info@brightonspeedway.com.
