DEREK WHITE GAINS FIFTEEN POSITIONS IN MONTREAL

August 29, 2010. Derek White and #99 Snakes Poker Palace Chevrolet Race Team arrived for the final road course event of the NASCAR Canadian Tire series determined to show a marked improvement in their performance from the beginning of the season. Following round number ten at Circuit Gilles Villeneuve in Montreal, Quebec on Sunday afternoon the team served notice they are continuing to improve with each outing.

The #99 Snakes Poker Palace Chevrolet team had their share of obstacles to overcome before race day. “During practice we had some trouble with the brakes; this track is very hard on them. When I was gearing down then we broke a drive shaft so we had our work cut out for us right away” said the driver.

White and the #99 Snakes Poker Palace Chevrolet team would complete repairs but White would start the feature event from the thirtieth position.

In the early going there was plenty of action and rough racing between competitors but White managed to keep the #99 Snakes Poker Palace Chevrolet away from trouble. “Everybody was pretty aggressive right from the start” he stated. “I just tried to be consistent and improve with each lap” he added.

As the race progressed the #99 Snakes Poker Palace Chevrolet would face another hurdle. “The locker in the rear end broke” explained the driver. “So for at least half the race I was only getting drive out of one wheel. Every time I got on the gas I had one spinning like crazy” he added.

Despite the mechanical disadvantage White kept pushing the #99 Snakes Poker Palace Chevrolet as hard as he was able and was rewarded for his determined effort. As the checkered flag feel White would gain a total of fifteen positions and claim a fifteenth place finish.

“I’m really happy with our top-fifteen finish in this race” said White. “These guys worked really hard to fix the problems when they came up. I did the best I could with the car and it was a good points day for us. That’s it for road racing for this year, now it’s back to the ovals and we’re looking forward to it” he concluded.

The next NASCAR Canadian Tire series event takes place at Barrie Speedway just outside Barrie, Ontario on Saturday September 11th. You can watch the races this season on TSN.
