MOSPORT, ON - The biggest sports car race weekend of the year revved into high gear as the Mobil 1 presents the Grand Prix of Mosport got underway.
All of the series' running this weekend held practice sessions on Mosport's famed road course as the 10-turn circuit holds its final major event of its 50th anniversary season. The American Le Mans Series held three separate test sessions while the other popular series’ running, the Star Mazda Championship, Cooper Tires Prototype Lites, Playboy MX-5 Cup and Castrol Canadian Touring Car Championship held their first practices of the action packed weekend.
The Muscle Milk CytoSport duo of Klaus Graf of Germany and France’s Romain Dumas set the pace in the prototype class with a fast lap time of 1:07.801 in their Porsche RS Spyder. The lone Canadian in action the series was the fourth fastest in the LMP Challenge class as he and American co-pilot ran a fast lap of 1:14.404.
Toronto’s own Robert Sabato had the fastest times in the Lites 2 category of the Cooper Tires Prototype Lites Championship in both of Friday’s practices. His best lap was 1:20.224.
Saturday's action begins with practice and qualifying sessions in the morning. The Cooper Tires Prototype Lites and the Castrol Touring cars will run the first leg of their doubleheaders Saturday afternoon. The weekend headliner, The American Le Mans Series will hold their qualifying session in two groups to end the day.
The Mobil 1 presents the Grand Prix of Mosport is the eighth race of the season for the American Le Mans Series and will run on Sunday, August 29 at 3:05 pm.
