DEREK WHITE RUNS STRONG AT MOSPORT

August 22, 2010. After a solid showing last week on the road course at Trois Rivieres, Quebec, Derek White and #99 OCR Gaz Bar Chevrolet Race Team returned to oval track racing for round number nine of the NASCAR Canadian Tire series Saturday night on the challenging half mile track at Mosport Speedway. Unfortunately their final result did not reflect how strong the car performed.

The #99 OCR Gaz Bar Chevrolet has showed great gains since the end of the western Canada portion of the schedule. Derek White expected that to continue at Mosport. “The car is better when we arrive at the race tracks now” said White. “So when we get out to the track for practice we’re making it faster instead of correcting any problems” he added.

White qualified the #99 OCR Gaz Bar Chevrolet fourteenth for the 200 lap feature event and as the race moved on he would show how far this team has come in a short time. “I was just trying to take my usual approach of being consistent” said White. “Things went pretty well for us, we stayed out of trouble and gained some spots” he added.

As the race moved past the half way point the #99 OCR Gaz Bar Chevrolet continued to move forward in the field and was solidly inside the top-ten. “We were finally showing how good this car and this team are” said White. “I just wanted to keep the great night going”.

Regrettably the #99 OCR Gaz Bar Chevrolet would be involved in contact and White was forced to make an unscheduled pit stop to address the issues. “I was just trying to stay out of trouble but sometimes it finds you” said the driver. “We were working on a top-ten finish for the race and trying to maintain the rookie of the year title lead but there was nothing we could do” he summarized.

White would be classified 16th at the end of the race.

Derek White and the #99 DPW/OCR Gas Bar Chevrolet will be at Snakes Poker Club Wednesday August 25th from 6PM-9PM. Stop by to meet Derek and get autographs.

The next NASCAR Canadian Tire series event takes place on Circuit Gilles Villeneuve on Sunday August 29th. You can watch the race live on TSN beginning at 11:30AM Eastern time. The team is scheduled to compete in all thirteen series races this season. You can follow the team all year long by following this link to their website and by logging onto www.nascar.ca
