CORNWALL MOTOR SPEEDWAY: Gage Morin wins at Cornwall Motor Speedway!

Cornwall, Ont – Sunday, August 29, 2010 –Mother Nature finally decided to cooperate with Cornwall Motor Speedway. A great field of cars answered the call on this gorgeous night for racing; a full racing program was on hand in all five classes with a 25-lap Semi-Pro feature and a 25-lap Mini-Stock finale. Jones Brown Insurance was the main sponsor of tonight`s racing program.

A fine field of 23 cars took the green in the 30-lap Modified feature. Youngsters Gage Morin and Matt Billings were on the top row with Billings taking the early lead but Morin came back and took the lead on lap 2. Morin was strong in front with Lee Ladouceur now second followed by Joel Doiron. Morin caught slower cars with 10 laps in the books. A good battle for third between Doiron and Stéphane Lafrance at the halfway point as Eric Gauvreau brought the first caution out on lap 18 as he stopped in the backstretch. Morin was fast on the following green with Ladouceur still in second as Lafrance was on the backbumper of Doiron for third. Morin was tearing the field down as he was back in traffic with only 2 laps to go in the feature. He led the final laps of the feature to win the race over Lee Ladouceur and Joel Doiron completed the podium. Laurent Ladouceur needs to be at the track next in the Jiffy 150 to claim the Modified track title.

In the 20 lap Pro-Stock Feature, Ricky Thompson was the early leader with PJ Peters behind him. Thompson had a pair of #73 cars behind him with Peters and Michel Desjardins. Peters was trying hard to pass Thompson and was able to take the lead using the inside lane on lap 8. Dave Bissonnette was now in third and was getting close to Thompson with a dozen laps in. Peters had a great lead over Thompson with less than 2 laps to go. The feature went caution free and Peters captured the win over Thompson, Dave Bissonnette, Corey Wheeler and George Renaud rounded out the top 5.

Josh Jock was the early leader in the 20-lap Sportsman feature, as Chris Raabe was one the fastest cars on the track being in fourth place. Raabe took third over Kristian Smoke on lap 4. The caution came out on lap 7 for a 2-car tangle in the front stretch. Cole Dingwall had a strong start and took the lead on Jock with Raabe now behind Dingwall with 11 laps to go.  Raabe was trying hard to pass Dingwall for the lead with a dozen laps completed with Randy Earl alone in third spot. Raabe took the lead over Dingwall using the outside lane on the front stretch on lap 15. Raabe led the final laps to win his fifth feature in a row at Cornwall in front of Dingwall and Earl completing the top 3.

Hugh Chandler led the first lap when Kevin McCrae slowed in turn 2. Chandler got back in the lead with Jeremy Thompson in second and Mike Stacey in third. Chandler got a few cars length lead over Thompson as Wes Bilmer got a flat tire and the caution came out on lap 9. Chandler got a good start with Kevin Fetterly now in second spot with Jonathan Galipeau in third. Fetterly took the lead on lap 10 and one lap later a few cars together in turn 4 and caution came out. On the following green, Fetterly got pushed and Galipeau was now the new leader, a few cars got together in turn 2 and the yellow was out at the halfway point. Galipeau the leader with Gaetan Amesse and Derek Cryderman behind him, Cryderman was able to pass Amesse but had problems with his car and Amesse was back in second spot with 7 laps to go. Amesse had good line on the top and grabbed the lead over Galipeau on lap 20 as Fetterly was right behind him. Roger D'Amour brought the yellow with 3 laps to go. A great battle for the lead between 3 cars as Hugh Chandler stopped in front of the grandstand with only 1 lap to go in the feature race. Amesse was able to resists for the final green and won the feature race over Galipeau and Fetterly was on the third step of the podium

A field of 18 cars took the initial green in the 25-lap Mini-Stock feature race; Dan Desnoyers led the first two laps as caution came out for debris on the track. Desnoyers had a good start with Mike Gaucher now in second. Corey Barnes brought the caution on lap 4 and the field had to slow down. Gaucher had a good jump on the following green and was the new leader over Desnoyers and Ben Nurse in third. Gaucher had confortable lead over the rest of the field at the halfway point. Justin Jodoin slowed in the back stretch and the yellow was out with 11 laps to go. Gaucher was still the leader with Nurse in second and Marc Usereau now in third. Gaucher led another 10 laps when Jean-Paul Laberge hit the wall hard in turn 4. Gaucher still the leader, the #3 car led the final laps and won the feature race in front of Ben Nurse and Marc Usereau completed the top 3.
