A pair of weekend events filled the schedule for the Excel Tower Service race team this weekend, with Belyea competing with a Street Stock at Can Am, and then jumping back in the Late Model on Saturday night at Brighton Speedway with the Ontario Dirt Late Model Series.
For the second time this season, Greg Belyea made a visit to Chapman’s Can Am Motorsports Park in Lafargeville, New York piloting the Excel Tower Service Street Stock.   Belyea normally drives at Late Model at Can Am, but that car is currently set up to run in other racing series such as the World of Outlaw Late Models, O’Reilly All Star Late Models, and the Ontario Dirt Late Models.  Belyea has run races with each series over the course of the year.  Belyea had a last minute change of plans and decided to take the Street Stock over to Can Am.
The previous Street Stock appearance was a struggle for Belyea, and issues with the handling of the car were resolved at the shop back home by changing the steering box on the car.   This time out, Belyea began the night starting from the rear of the six lap qualifying heat, and at the finish he had moved up to third place.  At the end of night, Belyea had moved from his tenth place starting position up the sixth place at the checkered flag.
“The car was much better this time around.  We changed some things since our last visit and the car was definitely better”, noted Belyea.
Greg Belyea and Jeff Mutton had Saturday, August 21st marked on their calendar as the Ontario Dirt Late Model Series made its annual appearance at the Brighton Speedway.  Both Belyea and Mutton have many laps of experience at the Brighton track, and both were looking to use a little home track advantage to their benefit at Brighton.  Excel Tower Service was also a major sponsor in the ODLM event at Brighton Speedway.  Unfortunately, Mother Nature did not want to co-operate, and Brighton Speedway officials were forced to postpone the event until this coming Saturday night.
“It is disappointing that it rained on Saturday, but there is nothing we can do about the weather, it is out of our control”, says Belyea.  “The ODLM Series has been able to reschedule this race for this week, so we are looking forward to that, and we will have a special guest driver in the 25 car in Lee Gill”.   Gill is the current points leader at Can Am, and has won many races in a Late Model over his career.
Once the ODLM race is over at Brighton, Belyea will put the GM Crate Motor back in the car, and will finish out the year with as many races as possible.
