MONTREAL: NASCAR Canadian Tire Series Qualifying Record Run For Ranger

MONTREAL -- Andrew Ranger extended his dominance in road-course qualifying with a record run Saturday at Circuit Gilles Villeneuve in advance of Sunday's NAPA AUTOPRO 100.

Ranger posted a top lap of 1 minutes, 45.003 seconds (92.877 seconds) around the 2.709-mile course for his ninth career pole position in the NASCAR Canadian Tire Series presented Mobil 1. Ranger, who is only running a partial schedule in the series this year, has won the pole in all four road-course races he has entered. The Roxton Pond, Quebec, driver won the 2008 race at Montreal.

The top five qualifiers all exceeded the previous record set by Kerry Micks of 1:46.664 (91.465) in 2008.

Points leader JR Fitzpatrick qualified second at 1:45.085 (92.805). Jason Bowles, the 2009 NASCAR K&N Pro Series West champion, qualified third at 1:46.016 (91.990).

Micks and DJ Kennington rounded out the top five for Sunday's race, the fifth and final road-course race of the season. Mark Dilley qualified sixth, followed by Don Thomson Jr., Jeff Lapevich, Anthony Simone, and Scott Steckly.

The NAPA AUTOPRO 100 will air live Sunday on TSN and RDS. The broadcast will start at 11:30 a.m., with the green-flag scheduled for 11:40 a.m. Fitzpatrick is the defending race winner and holds a 16-point lead over Kennington entering the weekend.
