Kawartha Durham Kart Club Invitational Race Report

The Kawartha Durham Kart Club held its inaugural non-points invitational race at Kawartha Speedway, Fraserville on Friday, August 23. The race was held in front of a large crowd on hand to watch Kawartha Speedway's regular Friday night stock cars.

Utilizing all corners and the front straight of the 3/8 mile oval and the club's regular infield road portion, gearing was the big question of the night and those that found the "sweet spot" were able to pull away from the large field. Members of the local constabulary were on hand with their radar to clock the speeds. A freight train of karts led by members of the FunRacers team hit 91 km/hr down the front straight. In the end it was club veteran Bruce Panes taking the win in the Masters class with Russell Farrell edging out Jaike Haywood in Junior. Basil Pappas of Pappas Billiards Race Team took the win in Novice.

The event was a great opportunity for the club to showcase and explain the benefits of starting young racers in their own karting equipment before moving up to stock cars. Many of the best stock car drivers young and old(er) have learned their race craft in karting and the Kawartha Durham Kart Club continues to promote and encourage this process.
